Showing appreciation doesn’t include reporting them

in More Awesomeness

I am in complete and utter disbelief. I have been contacted by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation in relation to how I run giveaways on my blog because one of our readers thought it would be a good idea to report Mad Mummas. Report us for what? Well I’m not sure exactly because they (VCGLR) couldn’t find an issue with how I run any of the competitions on my blog. They are ALL skilled based and the terms and conditions couldn’t be more straight forward than they already are; which the lovely inspector and compliance officer confirmed for me.

My first instinct was to be pissed off but after I stewed on it for a few days my anger turned to disappointment. Is it really that important for someone to win something? To get something for free? It confuses me in all honesty. Could someone be that disgruntle about not being chosen as a winner that they would resort to the drastic measure of trying to get others in legal trouble? As I’m sure you could imagine many hours go into putting these giveaways together; writing the post, monitoring comments, reading entries, deciding on a winners, announcing winners, sending details to PR, etc. I do all this as a way to reward readers and fans, encourage new ones and share a bit of joy amongst the blog/web community. I have run so many competitions (possibly 100′s) over the years we have been running and have been emailed by some extremely happy winners that couldn’t contain their excitement; these fans make it worth it. What this person has done could have had the potential to end that; thankfully I conduct all giveaways  legitimately so we are still able to spread the love.

spread the love.htm

If you feel the giveaways run here are anything but fair than please don’t enter as all you are doing is wasting mine/my husband/family members time. We read and judge each of the entries and it is a very time consuming job. Most of you are absolutely wonderful and I want nothing more than for you to keep coming back, entering, sharing and having the chance to win something awesome that you may otherwise not have gotten.

**I really hope the woman who made the complaint gets to read this because just in case you missed it above – I have done absolutely nothing wrong and the VCGLR has cleared me of all/any of your complaints. I also want you to know that I know who are (yes I know your name) and most importantly negative and hostile behaviour is not a required or desired character to have in skill based competitions or the Mad Mummas community in general.

HAVE YOUWON

If you have won something from Mad Mummas – big or small – I would love for you to leave me a comment below with what you have won and did it bring you joy?

Oh dear.
I am sad for you that someone felt it necessary to do this to you.
I am thrilled for you though that there are no issues and that you were cleared by the relevant authority.
Some people just like to cause trouble.
Chin up lovely!!

Yeah I was gobsmacked (still am a little bit) that they felt it necessary to resort to something so dire and serious. But yes cleared by the authorities so we can continue to make others smile :) Thanks for stopping by. xx

How bizarre? Finding it really hard to believe someone would report you. What were they hoping to achieve?

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 1:39 pm

I know! I have no idea what they were trying to achieve but if they think it would get them a prize they were terribly mistaken. Still baffled!

Are you serious?! That’s really disappointing behaviour on their part
I’m sure you’ve seen my name pop up on your comps (and I’ve been fortunate enough to win a few too; thanks very much!) and it’s a shame when other people spoil things.
For what it’s worth, I think that you’re great and I for one am really grateful for the opportunity to win some things that I mightn’t otherwise be able to afford/get to purchase.
Winning something is really great but it really isn’t the end of the world if you don’t. Sheesh.

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 1:42 pm

hahaha yep I hear you. Yes I have seen your name pop up a few times and this is why I often get other (family, friends, etc) to choose the winner so there is no favouritism to fans. I’m so pleased you have won a few times and continue to come back when when you don’t win.
It’s fans like you that make it worth it!! Thank Michelle. If you haven’t already noticed we are moving soon so make sure you like our new facebook page http://www.facebook.com/allmumsaid so you don’t miss anything :)

#face-palm! The ugly side that competitions can bring. How rude, how ungrateful and how greedy some people are! You don’t have to have any competitions at all!!. Such a shame someone felt they had to do that to you. Just wrong! Glad it worked out okay at your end! Thanks for your comps and for adding a little fun to a great website!

Obviously that person is here for the wrong reason. Keep your chin up and keep posting :)

I’m so sorry to read this has happened. I seldom enter because I can’t think what to write, until after the comp. has finished anyway. I just love feeling I’m part of the community. I get to put my two bobs worth in, get to read about different things. It must take hours to go through the entries, but you do it. Please don’t let this discourage you, and keep on doing what you do.

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 1:48 pm

Thanks Dawn. I love having you here and reading your 2 bobs :) I love that Mad Mummas has become a caring community. You really should enter some comps though – you just never know ;)

That is despicable and disrespectful. Sounds like sour grapes to me. No doubt you weren’t told who the culprit was – under the Privacy Act they only disclose what they want to. I am always extremely grateful for anything I win. Some things when our little ones no longer use them I pass them on either to somebody I know will appreciate them or on to a worthwhile charity.

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 1:55 pm

Surprisingly Rosemary they told me this persons first and last name! Yes that was the conclusion I also came to was that she was just disgruntled she didn’t win. Quite sad really. I love reading comments like yours; from people who are grateful and once they are done with their prize pass it onto others that can get years more use out of it. I just want to show my support for you.
I’m not good at “25 words or less” competition but I still enter your comps because it forces my brain to think (my brain has gone to mush ever since I gave birth to my son).
I was lucky enough to win one comp at the end of last year, the Trunki. You might even remember me as I emailed you a few times due to the delay of the prize which I know is not a fault of yours.
I thought the way you run your comp is fair unlike a few others that I have come acrossed. It is also very easy for others to judge why the winner deserves to win as all entries are posted in the comments.

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 1:58 pm

Thanks Lidya. Yes I remember the Trunki, I am very sorry about the delay with that. It was a bit ridiculous actually but we got there in the end. I think that’s a great reason to enter – it gets your brain fired up. Good on you! I do try and make things as fair as I possibly can – getting outsiders to choose winners, etc. Thanks for staying with us and we hope you stick around for many years to come. I was lucky enough too win the most gorgeous Gingerlilly dressing gown a couple of months back in your Blog Mega Giveaway. It felt better than Christmas when i opened the package, I could never justify spending $100 on myself for a dressing gown, and was so happy putting the old Big-W cheapie in the bin.It wasn’t about the item or the winning, but the warm fuzzy feeling I felt inside was priceless.I cant imagine that anyone would be that mean spirited or jealous to deny others of a moment of joy in their lives. Please don’t be disheartened by one individual,You know what they say about Kharma !

Reply

Mad Mummas July 2, 2014 at 10:41 pm

Yes some people are definitely gifted in making words work for them but I agree you’ve got to be in it to win it. It really depends on who is judging the entries as well because what I think is a winner may not be what the person judging does. That’s the beauty I guess and why I like to make sure there are different people judging.

I’ve also won some prizes in your Christmas competitions – a $50 Life Live It Up voucher last year and the year before that I won a few smaller prizes that the kids are still playing with over a year later.
I admire the effort you put into your blog and enjoy that you always say it how it is. Your FB page also helped me discover new FB friends through interactions on your site.
I’m glad you were able to find out the name of the person who reported you (for nothing!) because at least you don’t have to waste time wondering who it might have been.
